AMORY, Miss (WTVA)- NauticStar Boats' president says boat sales are up as more people are social distancing while on the water.
Senator Roger Wicker and Congressman Trent Kelly visited NauticStar Tuesday morning and spoke with NauticStar's president about how the boating industry is right now and job creation.
Scott Womack says boat sales are up because of the coronavirus, "From a COVID standpoint we have actually seen increase in business of boating"
Womack said the demand for boats is up right now and he is having to hire more staff.
Congressman Kelly said it was great to see people working hard to produce the boats, "Producing products that are used all over the world and they are all made right here in Mississippi."
Senator Wicker said the increase in the demand of boat is good for the economy, "A very successful sector of the economy and it creates jobs right here in the heartland. This is very good news for the economy."
NauticStar Boats produce boats for all over the county from California to the east coast; the biggest buyers are in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida though.
Scott Womack says it takes about 30-45 days to build each boat.
