TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Black smoke could be seen rising above Tupelo at Cooper Tire Tuesday morning.
Employees were seen standing outside the facility.
WTVA is working to learn more specifics about the incident.
Cooper Tire provided the following statement at 11:50 a.m.
"The health and safety of those who work in Cooper Tire facilities is our first priority. There was a fire at our Tupelo tire manufacturing plant earlier today that appears to be localized to one area of the plant. As a precaution, everyone has been evacuated from the plant and there are no injuries. The fire department continues at the scene. At this time, we are not able to determine when work may safely resume at the facility, but we are keeping the workforce informed."
Before noon, the black smoke had disappeared.
According to the Tupelo Fire Department at 1:36 p.m., firefighters managed to get the fire under control.
Tupelo Fire Cheif, Thomas Walker says most of the fire damage was in the roof line, and there is a lot of water damage to the building as well.
