ASHLAND, Miss. (WTVA) - A church is regrouping in Benton County after a fire destroyed most of the building.
The church, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, is in Ashland.
Pastor Herbert Luther says he got the call that the church was on fire sometime near 10:30 p.m. Thursday night.
He says he drove to the church and saw the fire's glow from a mile away.
Luther believes the fire was ignited by a bolt of lightning. However, fire officials are still determining the official cause.
Luther says firefighters were able to save the church's fellowship hall.
He says he is in the process of calling his parishioners to inform them of the fire.
He says the church will hold its Sunday service in the fellowship hall of the church.
As for what's next, Luther says he's waiting on official word from the State Fire Marshal's Office. Investigators are expected to be at the church today.
He says the church will file with their insurance company following official word from the fire marshals.
Luther plans to rebuild the church.
