PEARL, Miss. (WTVA) - On January 14, Chris Basil got the call that nobody wants to get.
While out of town, the long time, beloved head baseball coach at East Union High School was informed that his house was destroyed in a fire.
There was a time to grieve, but Chris Basil knew he had a job to do.
LIke he's done for almost 30 years, Basil had to get a group of young men ready for another baseball season.
The Urchins were the two-time defending 2A champions.
East Union came up one game short in its bid for a 'three-peat,' falling to Madison St. Joseph Catholic in the 2A championship series.
"These guys (East Union baseball team) have played a tremendous role in us able to go on," said Basil after the final game of the 2A series. "I just give all the glory to the Lord, who has taken care of us."
