TUPELO, Miss. - It’s been almost one year since the Bancorpsouth Arena held a concert because of the coronavirus pandemic. That’s about to change.
The band Blackberry Smoke & North Mississippi Allstars is coming to the Arena on April 16.
Even though Mississippi’s state restrictions are no more, the City of Tupelo still requires masks to be used in city-owned buildings. This includes the Arena. So concertgoers may have to remember to bring their masks.
The Arena is only seating 50% capacity; that equals approximately 4,300 people.
Toby Mac's concert is scheduled for April 24. This show will be held outside using the parking lot on the Commerce Street side of the Arena.
Masks will not be required for the outdoor event. But drivers will have to socially distance their vehicles. A total of 298 cars will fit in the parking lot and up to six people can come in a car.
Director Doug Johnson said he is looking to book more concerts.
Concession stands will be open and Johnson said he is working to minimize visitors' contact with others.
"It's getting back in it; it's going slow but we are going to do it safe," he added.
Johnson said he is looking into HVAC adjustments to filter the air in the arena.
