TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Tupelo City Council members listened to and discussed an expansion plan for the BancorpSouth Arena and Conference Center.
At Tuesday's work session, Executive Director Todd Hunt unveiled the plan for the first time even though it's been in the works for about four years.
The $14,000,000 expansion will include an additional 15,000 square feet of meeting space to the conference center as well as updated amenities to the arena including a lounge area. It will also connect the area between the arena and conference center.
The main mission of the expansion is to promote economic growth and tourism for the city. The expansion will allow the facility to book bigger and more events and allow more people to come into the city.
No action was taken at today's meeting, but council members did agree to begin moving forward with the plan and continue to discuss and work out specifics.
