ABERDEEN, Miss. (WTVA) - The Platform of Hope hosted its Back to School Bash Saturday.
The organization gave away nearly 250 backpacks filled with school supplies for children in grades K-12.
The fun-filled day included moonwalks, food, face painting and games.
Organizers say they wanted to give students a more encouraging way to start a positive school year.
"Being able to pull these resources and provide for the community means the world to me," said Doris Smith, founder of The Platform of Hope.
Students were encouraged to display positive morals in school by working hard, following instruction, respecting and obeying parents and teachers during the year.
