MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) — The state completed its autopsy on a woman from Smithville whose death was suspected of being connected to vaping.
State medical examiner Dr. David Arboe listed the cause of death for Anna Russell, 27, as bilateral pneumonia.
However, the report also said a history of vaping and recent pneumonia associated with vaping "contributed to her demise."
The Mississippi State Department of Health Tuesday would not say if Russell is the state's only vaping-related death, adding such a move would violate federal patient confidentiality laws.
The agency said on September 26 that Mississippi's only vaping-related death was someone under the age of 30.
The Mississippi State Medical Examiner's Office peformed Russell's autopsy on September 19, but Arboe did not sign the autopsy report until Monday.
Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley received the report Tuesday and released it through a public records request by WTVA 9 News.
