JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - State Auditor Shad White says special agents from his office arrested a former employee of Northeast Mississippi Community College (NEMCC) following her indictment for alleged embezzlement.
White says agents arrested Amy Haynie on Tuesday.
Haynie was issued a $68,762.87 demand letter upon her arrest, White says.
According to White’s office, she is accused of embezzling cash from a college petty cash fund and from students as they paid various college-related fees.
She allegedly stole more than $57,000 from the college.
White says Haynie hid the alleged scheme from May 2016 to February 2020 “because the internal controls in her office allowed her to manipulate records of how cash was collected and deposited.”
NEMCC President Dr. Ricky Ford issued the following statement:
"It is unfortunate that these things happen. I commend the staff in our business office that identified the situation. They gathered the evidence and turned over to State Auditor’s office who in turn made the arrest. Even with all of the protocols in place if someone wants to steal they will figure out a way to do it. We commend and thank the State Auditor’s investigative officers for the assistance and guidance provided."
