STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - The tenth annual Dog Paddle pool party put on by the Oktibbeha County Humane Society is being held virtually this year.
The pool party is normally held at Moncrief Park, but the pool has been closed all summer due to the coronavirus.
The closure of the pool did not stop the OCHS staff from having the paw-fect pool party. Martha Thomas, Director of Development and Community Relations at OCHS says the team decided to have an online week-long party using pictures and videos to capture moments at home.
The proceeds earned from the Dog Paddle go to the Second Chance Fund. This fund helps animals at the shelter receive extra care, like treatment for heartworms and surgeries on broken bones.
Thomas says that people are still participating in the virtual version of the party.
Receiving pictures and videos from participants, Thomas says, "So far I've seen a dog wearing a life jacket. I've seen a cat enjoying water from a sink, so people are really getting creative."
Registration is open through the rest of this week at www.ochsms.org/dogpaddle.
