COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - Airbus Helicopter is always looking to reach new heights.
On Wednesday company officials were joined by Mississippi Congressional leaders to announce a new model of aircraft.
The company will produce the newest model of the H125 helicopter at the Columbus plant.
The H125 is one of Airbus’ newest projects at the plant. The aircraft is designed specifically for Customs and Border Protection.
Executive Director of Air and Marine Dennis Michelini said the product is top-notch.
The H125 is said to be the most popular law enforcement helicopter in the nation.
However, the technology isn’t the only aspect that makes the aircraft thrive, but the people working to create it.
Airbus Production Manager Ben Sullivan believes the investment comes from the background of their workers.
"We have a 40% veteran population as far as our employees go," he said. "That gives them something to come home to, and even though they're no longer in the service, they still feel like they're giving back to the country."
After all the hard work put on by employees, it seems as though the project has brought a new excitement to the job.
The company will produce 16 helicopters for U.S. Customs and Border Protections.
And even with the virus, Airbus has planned accordingly, so shipments should not affected.
