“The need for hunger is not just a seasonal thing; it’s year-long,” inventory manager Michael Bishop said.
He said “Pack the Trailer” looked a little different on Thursday.
Because of the coronavirus, folks stayed in their cars as volunteers grabbed their donations.
Bishop said the need for food is at an all-time high in Choctaw County.
Over 19% of residents don’t know where their next meal is coming from.
“It’s important that we collect this food, and in return, we can send it back out to those families that are in need throughout our weekly pantry.”
Volunteers collected can goods, meat and bakery items.
Bishop said getting food donations has been a struggle during the pandemic.
He said they wanted to reach their 10,000-pound goal this year. But they are short 1,000 pounds of food.
“Our food donations are taking a hit this year due to COVID. It’s important that we meet this goal in an effort to still serve the county.”
Bishop said volunteers will give out the donations to those who qualify on Wednesday, Dec. 16.
