Constance Hamlin | Prentiss County Sheriff's Department
Prentiss County Sheriff Randy Tolar said deputies found the body of a 21-year-old man in the 200 block of Highway 364 in Altitude no more than 10 minutes after someone at that location called for help.
The shooting victim was identified as John Michael Ross Berryman, 21, of Dry Creek.
With help from other local law enforcement agencies, the suspect, 18-year-old Trakendric Young, was arrested at the Motel 6 on East Main Street in Tupelo.
The investigation led to the following arrests:
- Jesse Crabb, 18
- Truth Brown, 17
- Jacob Gurley, 18
- Timothy Holloway, 19
Deputies recovered the handgun used in the shooting alongside a county road where the suspects had tossed it, Tolar said. He did not identify the county road.
All five teenagers are from Booneville and charged with capital murder. They are being held in jail without bond.
Investigators also arrested and charged Young's mother, 46-year-old Constance Hamlin, with accessory after the fact. She allegedly carried her son to Tupelo.
