Woman bitten by venomous snake in New Albany

A woman is now in the hospital after being bitten by a venomous snake.

NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WTVA) - A woman is now in the hospital after being bitten by a venomous snake.

The incident happened Monday night along the Tallahatchie River underneath Interstate 22, east of the sportsplex in New Albany.

It appears the victim and others were night fishing when the bite occured.

New Albany Police Chief Chris Robertson says the woman stepped on a copperhead snake and it bit her on the foot.

The woman's current condition is not known.
