PONTOTOC, Miss. (WTVA) - Dog rescuers are looking for answers after a dog was shot multiple times in Pontotoc.

Animal protection groups, In Defense of Animals and Second Chances Animal Rescue, held a news conference Thursday at the Pontotoc County Sheriff's Department.

A dog named Claire was recently found in the woods, shot in the leg and face. She was found on April 30.

When she was found, her leg injury was so severe, it had to be amputated.

Claire was reportedly a stray dog and had been walking around in the area for months.

That's when the rescuers went looking for the dog and found her terribly injured.

The groups are offering a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest.
