UPDATE 4/26/18 - The following statement is from MDOC.

"Regional jails in the state prison system are no longer under lockdown.

Movement at other facilities, including the three state prisons, is still limited."

It's unclear the specific reason for the lockdown to begin with.

JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- All of Mississippi’s prisons have been locked down effective immediately.

This includes the regional jails in Alcorn, Chickasaw and Winston counties holding state inmates.

The lockdown means inmates cannot see visitors, go to the commissary or go outside this weekend.

Why the move?

Prison officials say security reasons.

The Mississippi Department of Corrections did not elaborate beyond that.

The state agency made the announcement on its Facebook page late Friday afternoon.
