WEST POINT, Miss. (WTVA) - The West Point community came together Thursday night with police to talk about reducing crime.
It was called Unity Night and it was organized by the Clay County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
They honored former Police Chief Tim Brinkley and welcomed the new chief, Avery Cook.
The goal was to allow people to meet the men and women on the police force and they had about a dozen officers there.
They also talked about ways to get started bringing back some neighborhood watch programs.
“We’re trying to strengthen the bonds between policeman and the local community,” Chapter President Laquante Pruitt said. “We’re trying to create neighborhood watch programs so that people will feel safe in their homes and in their neighborhoods.”
You’re encouraged to contact the police department if you’d like to start a watch program in your neighborhood.
