NOXUBEE COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) - An investigation is underway into another hit and run in our area.
“He said the only thing he remembered was he didn’t see anything,” Noxubee County Sheriff Terry Grassaree said. “He just felt a flash, and it knocked him out, knocked him into the ditch down here, where you see that round mark is where his hat was.”
Sheriff Grassaree said Eddie James Perry was hit by a car about 5 a.m. Friday. Perry, who’s in his late 60s, was walking north on Highway 145 just north of Macon when the car hit him from behind knocking him down the hill.
“He crawled back up the hill,” Grassaree said. “A guy was passing and saw him crawling up and he pulled over to help him to see what was going on.”
That man driving by called 911 and Perry was rushed to Baptist Golden Triangle in Columbus. Right now, Sheriff Grassaree says they don’t have much to go on and there is no vehicle description. The driver, if caught, will face hit and run charges and leaving the scene of an accident. The sheriff also wants to remind people to be safe when walking along dark roads.
“If you’re going to walk, walk towards traffic, not against traffic and make sure you wear something white or neon and be careful,” he said.
Investigators need your help. If you saw what happened, you’re asked to call the sheriff’s office.
