STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - Oktibbeha County sheriff's deputies have arrested a man accused of firing several gunshots at them.

Michael Davidson, 35, of Old Mayhew Road, is charged with shooting into a dwelling, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, assault on a detention officer, burglary of a dwelling and felony malicious mischief.  He's charged with two counts each on the shooting into a dwelling charge and the assault on a detention officer charge.

Lieutenant Brett Watson says deputies showed up on Old Mayhew Road Saturday night originally for a welfare concern and returned shortly following that after getting a call shots had been fired.

Deputies heard multiple shots fired from a nearby apartment.  They say when they tried to contact Davidson, he fired at them and took off.

According to Watson, Davidson entered another apartment, got into a struggle with someone there who was not armed and was forced from the apartment.

After that, deputies arrested him after a short chase on foot.

Davidson is also accused of hitting two officers at the county jail following his arrest.

A judge set bond for the defendant at $850,000.
