TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - North Mississippi Health Services (NMHS) now offers 3-D mammography at all its community hospitals.
The West Point hospital has had the equipment since 2019, and the NMHS hospital in Hamilton, Alabama, will get the equipment in the coming weeks.
“Having 3-D mammography services available at all of our hospitals will provide area women easier access to this life-saving technology,” NMHS President and CEO Shane Spees said. “These access points with state-of-the-art equipment, paired with our dedicated health care providers and staff, will have an impact on the detection and treatment of breast cancer throughout the communities we serve.”
Women over the age of 40 are encouraged to have a screening mammogram every year. A screening mammogram is for women who do not have a specific breast concern or symptom, such as a lump.
According to the NMHS, pain and discomfort are top reasons why women skip mammograms. 3-D mammography is designed to deliver a better patient experience with less compression.
These machines can measure breast density at the workstation and assess risk before a person leaves the exam.
Anyone wanting more information or to schedule a 3-D screening mammogram can call 662-377-6655 or 1-866-912-1486.
