TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Nearly 2,000 people attended the Salvation Army's 22nd annual Empty Bowls luncheon on Wednesday.
The event raised enough money to provide more than 123,000 meals to those in need throughout Lee County.
More than 45 restaurants, caterers and chefs provided dozens of different soups for the lunch.
"It's still going on because of our community," Chairperson Kristi Hillhouse said. "We have such a great community that shows up. And if it weren't for the people that came out and the restaurants that came out, we wouldn't be able to host this event."
The event is recognized as the organization's biggest fundraiser of the year.
