A person is in serious condition following a noontime shooting in Hamilton.

HAMILTON, Miss. (WTVA) - A person is in serious condition following a noontime shooting in Hamilton.

Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell says the shooting happened Thursday on Belair Drive. Cantrell says the male victim was shot in the upper leg.

A man has been taken into custody. Cantrell identifes the suspect as 38-year Michael Mitchell of Hamilton. He's charged with aggravated assault. He's currently in the Monroe County jail awaiting arraignment. 

Cantrell says Mitchell came to an apartment, kicked open the door and got into an altercation with another man. The motive for this shooting is still under investigation.
