BOONEVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - One organization is looking to add people to its team, but is looking for people with character instead of skills.
ProVia is a faith-based facility that specializes in making home-building products.
The Booneville location, just down the road from Northeast Mississippi Community College, makes, packages and ships out vinyl siding for houses.
"We look to hire for character over skills," Human Resource Manager Danita Cartwright said.
She explained what makes the company unique.
"ProVia has 19 values that are very important to us. And when we interview applicants, we look for people that we believe and feel will support those values," Cartwright said. "If a person has a good character that lines up with their values, and has a teachable spirit, they can be successful at ProVia."
Cartwright explained her team will usually hire people at the entry-level, which includes packers. They load vinyl siding into boxes for shipping.
They also hire pallet-builders who build the skids used in loading the boxes of vinyl.
Packer Dewana Mitchell was a forklift driver before she came to ProVia. She's since worked at ProVia for four months.
She said she didn't need any previous experience to get her new job.
"It's very easy. If you can stay consistent on what you're doing, you'll get it," Mitchell said.
She added she loves her schedule, and she loves having weekends off.
"It means I get to see my kids on the weekend. And I have a child that's in college, and I love this job because it's very helpful to me," Mitchell said.
