WEST POINT, Miss. (WTVA) - Members of the military around the world depend on their vehicles to move them from location to location and keep them safe in a fight.
One Clay County company’s workers do their part by building armored personnel carriers.
Navistar Defense came to West Point in 2005 to build military vehicles.
Chief Operating Officer James Grooms said the people at Navistar are very proud of their mission.
"Over the course since 2005, we've built a lot of vehicles that support the men and women in harm's way," Grooms said.
Since 2005, Grooms explained that Navistar has built 40,000 vehicles for the U.S. military and its allies around the world.
He said nearly all of those rolled through the plant in West Point.
According to Grooms, right now, there is approximately 100 personnel in West Point. And by the middle of next year, the company expects to have approximately 300.
The following year, he said the company expects to have as many as 500 people at the West Point plant.
It takes many types of workers to make the company move, such as painters, electricians, mechanics and more.
The company also needs people including welders and weld inspectors. It also looks to hire various types of engineers.
The company will hire a variety of people, from those fresh out of high school looking to learn, to those who are skilled and experienced in their discipline.
"You need entry-level as well, so we like to invest in those young people as part of our workforce."
