TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - The hospitality management program at Itawamba Community College is preparing students to find a career in a growing industry.
"You see it when you're driving down Gloster Street. You see hotels and restaurants being built," said Billy Carson, program director and instructor.
Through this two-year online program, students gain the necessary skills and certifications needed to land a job in the industry.
"You will take introductory courses, advanced courses, and then you'll get do to an internship," Carson said. "You will also gain the ServSafe certification, which is what you need for serving food."
Demetra Sherer has been in the hospitality industry all her life and said it's the best option for her personality.
"I love people, all races, creeds, genres, and hospitality is a melting pot for that. I love being able to hear their life stories and make them feel good about themselves."
Sherer works as the director of sales at the Hilton Garden Inn in Tupelo. She said this is the perfect job for someone who has a passion for working with people.
Instructors said this program can help anyone wanting to better his or her communication skills, or work in casinos, hotels, restaurants and other places.
Fall registration closes on Aug. 26. If you would like to enroll, visit ICC's Tupelo campus or call 662-620-5367.
