STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) — Verizon is lending a helping hand to small businesses around the country that are affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
One business in Starkville received funds from the company’s Pay It First initiative.
The coronavirus relief funds help business owners pay employees, pay rent and back inventory.
Swanky B’s Boutique in downtown Starkville received a $10,000 grant from Verizon.
Katie Davis, Verizon Social Impact Manager, said Verizon partnered with non profit organization LISC to help small businesses.
She said the company donated $2.5 million in three different cycles for LISC to distribute to the grant recipients.
Davis said the company focused on helping women, veterans and those in underprivileged communities.
She said small businesses are the backbone of their communities.
“Retail businesses are particularly hit hard and I think the business that we’re supporting in Mississippi is in that vein. We put an emphasis again on those small businesses that may not have as much access to more traditional forms of capital," said Davis.
