TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Tupelo city leaders met Tuesday night to discuss a work plan.
Mayor Jason Shelton announced changes to operations for a few city departments until further notice.
The Tupelo Water and Light Department will operate with two, three-man crews while all other employees are on standby. Also, customers will not be allowed inside the lobby without an appointment.
The Public Works Department will have 13 employees around to keep services moving, and the fire department will not allow visitor activities such as birthday parties.
The municipal court work program has also been shut down until further notice, but two employees will be in the office Monday through Friday to answer calls and process inmates as needed.
The City Hall will remain open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; however, you are urged to call ahead and make an appointment.
"The city government is not shutting down; it's just that we'll have to be flexible and understanding that some things will have to be done differently," Shelton said.
