JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) — State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs ordered hospitals on Friday to postpone non-urgent surgeries and procedures requiring an overnight stay.
The order, which runs eight days from Sunday until July 20, was triggered by hospitals across the state running out of room for patients because of the coronavirus.
Dobbs said Thursday patients in some instances are being sent outside the state for treatment because Mississippi hospitals do not have beds available.
The Mississippi State Department of Health originally announced this week elective procedures would be put on hold in the Jackson metro, Laurel-Hattiesburg and Greenville areas.
