STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - A city-wide curfew has been set for Starkville.
In a 6-1 decision, the Board of Aldermen voted to set a curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. until April 20.
Mayor Lynn Spruill said she believes this will provide clarity for Starkville residents and stop residents of neighboring cities from coming into the Starkville to hangout.
Police Chief Mark Ballard said you can expect to see lots of officers patrolling at night for safety reasons, and penalties for breaking curfew will be decided by a judge.
This curfew will stay in place until April 20, but if the governor’s shelter-in-place order is extended, the curfew date will follow.
