OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) - The City of Oxford is taking steps to make sure people wear masks at businesses.
On Tuesday, Oxford city leaders announced more businesses could reopen Wednesday morning, but employees and customers must wear masks or face coverings.
Police officers have been on the lookout for people who aren't following the guidelines the city put in place to fight the coronavirus.
Mayor Robyn Tannehill said police officers have already been to businesses to let them know about the policy.
Police officers have not issued any citations but can if they see fit.
This is not a state-wide requirement but Tannehill said it is a necessary precaution to keep people safe.
This restriction is just in Oxford; Lafayette County is not requiring businesses to do so.
The City of Starkville also implemented a similar restriction earlier this week.
