OKOLONA, Miss. (WTVA) - Okolona is requiring the use of face coverings in indoor public or business spaces where it’s not possible to maintain social distance.

The order goes into effect Thursday, July 2 at 6 a.m. The public is still to maintain social distance.

Signage should be posted by entrances to businesses stating that face coverings are required for entry.

A patron located inside an indoor public or business space without a face covering will be asked to leave by the business if the patron is unwilling to come into compliance with wearing a face covering.

Face coverings are not required for:

  • People whose religious beliefs prevent them from wearing a face covering.
  • Those who cannot wear a face-covering due to a medical or behavioral condition.
  • Restaurant patrons while dining.
  • Private, individual offices or offices with fewer than 10 employees.
  • Other settings where it’s not practical or feasible to wear a face covering, including when obtaining or rendering goods or services, such as receipt of dental services or swimming.
  • Banks, gyms, or spaces with physical barrier partitions which prohibit contact between the customers and employees.
  • Small offices where the public does not interact with the employees.
  • Children under the age of 12.

Businesses that want an exemption can send an email to mayorcarouthers@cityofokolona.com.
