JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported 578 new COVID-19 cases and 23 new deaths Thursday, Oct. 8.
MSDH updates its case totals each morning based on test results from the previous day.
New COVID-19 related deaths reported to MSDH as of 6 p.m. Wednesday. Thirteen deaths occurred between September 17 and October 7 in the counties below.

Ten COVID-19 related deaths occurred between August 19 and September 29, identified from death certificate reports.

As of Thursday, Oct. 8, there have been 102,819 total cases of the virus since mid-March, which is when the state reported its first case. There have been 3,074 total deaths.
The state health department estimates there have been 90,577 recoveries. The MSDH usually updates its estimated recoveries total once a week.
