JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - The state health department reported 489 new cases of the coronavirus and 23 new deaths Wednesday, June 17.
The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) updates its case totals each morning based on test results from the previous day.

New coronavirus-related deaths reported to MSDH as of 6 p.m. Tuesday:
- Adams - 1
- Jones - 1
- Leake - 1
- Leflore - 1
- Neshoba - 1
- Warren - 2
Sixteen confirmed COVID-19 related deaths between May 23 and June 11 were identified from death certificate reports. The additional deaths were reported in the following counties:
- Desoto - 1
- Hancock - 1
- Hinds - 1
- Holmes - 1
- Kemper - 1
- Lee - 2
- Leflore - 1
- Lowndes - 1
- Monroe - 1
- Neshoba - 1
- Newton - 1
- Oktibbeha - 1
- Pearl River - 1
- Stone - 1
- Tishomingo - 1
As of Wednesday, June 17, MSDH estimates 15,323 people have recovered from the virus.
Since mid-March, when the state reported its first case of the virus, MSDH has reported 20,641 total cases and 938 total deaths.
