JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported 1,635 new COVID-19 cases and 31 new deaths Tuesday, July 21.
MSDH updates its case totals each morning based on test results from the previous day.

New COVID-19 related deaths reported to MSDH as of 6 p.m. Monday:
- Bolivar - 3
- Grenada - 1
- Harrison - 1
- Hinds - 5
- Jackson - 1
- Lawrence - 1
- Leake - 1
- Lee - 1
- Lowndes - 1
- Madison - 2
- Neshoba - 1
- Panola - 1
- Rankin - 1
- Sunflower - 2
- Tishomingo - 1
- Walthall - 1
- Washington - 1
- Wayne - 1
Five confirmed COVID-19 related deaths occurred between June 30 and July 12, identified from death certificate reports. The additional deaths were reported in the following counties:
- Bolivar - 1
- Clay - 1
- Covington - 1
- Harrison - 1
- Leake - 1
As of Tuesday, July 21, there have been 45,524 total cases of the virus since mid-March, which is when the state reported its first case. There have been 1,389 total deaths.
The state health department estimates there have been 30,315 recoveries.
