JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported 1,348 new COVID-19 cases and 36 new deaths Wednesday, Aug. 19.
MSDH updates its case totals each morning based on test results from the previous day.
New COVID-19-related deaths reported to MSDH as of 6 p.m. Tuesday:

- Grenada - 1
- Jackson - 2
- Jasper - 1
- Lafayette - 3
- Lamar - 1
- Lauderdale - 1
- Lowndes - 1
- Montgomery - 1
- Newton - 1
- Noxubee - 1
- Pearl River - 2
- Prentiss - 1
- Rankin - 1
- Stone - 3
- Sunflower - 1
- Tate - 1
Twelve confirmed COVID-19 related deaths occurred between July 22 and August 14, identified from death certificate reports. The additional deaths were reported in the following counties:
- Chickasaw - 1
- Hinds - 1
- Lamar - 1
- Lincoln - 1
- Marion - 1
- Neshoba - 1
- Simpson - 1
- Tishomingo - 1
- Warren - 1
- Washington - 3
As of Wednesday, Aug. 19, there have been 74,555 total cases of the virus since mid-March, which is when the state reported its first case. There have been 2,163 total deaths.
The state health department estimates there have been 56,577 recoveries. The MSDH usually updates its estimated recoveries total once a week.
