JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - The state health department says a gathering at a recent funeral in Baldwyn has led to at least seven COVID-19 (coronavirus) cases in Mississippi and at least two cases in out-of-state residents.
The funeral and after-service gathering were held on Sunday, May 17. The state health department did not identify the specific location of the funeral, other than in the city of Baldwyn.
The graveside service was held at 1 p.m. and the after-service gathering was from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Approximately 100 people attended the funeral, the state health department says. The health department is investigating more possible cases.
The health department urges attendees to monitor themselves for COVID-19 symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath).
If symptoms develop, they should immediately isolate themselves and contact their healthcare provider.
