FULTON, Miss. (WTVA) - Itawamba Community College (ICC) says administrators will meet Thursday afternoon to finalize a plan moving forward amid the state’s first confirmed coronavirus case.
The Mississippi State Department of Health reported a man in Forrest County has the coronavirus. Hattiesburg is located in Forrest County.
“After accessing recommendations provided to the Institutions of Higher Education by the CDC, the College is taking initial steps in suspending college-sponsored travel to U.S. cities that have declared a State-of-Emergency in response to the virus,” according to ICC’s statement Thursday afternoon.
The college's goal is to provide the public with an update by Friday at noon at the latest.
Students, staff and faculty members should monitor ICC’s website, social media and campus email for future updates.
The State College Board (IHL) announced Thursday it’s extending spring break at Mississippi's eight public universities over coronavirus concerns. The College Board does not oversee the state’s community colleges.
