TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton will testify before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Homeland Security to provide insight into COVID-19 response efforts.
Members of the Committee will question state and local leaders about the impact the virus has left on their communities. Members will also have the chance to discuss ways to improve pandemic response.

- Colonel (retired) Brian Hastings, Director, Alabama Emergency Management Agency
The City of Tupelo recently implemented an executive order requiring the use of masks in public places.
On June 26, Shelton made a statement on his Facebook page, debunking rumors and urging the public to listen to healthcare professionals regarding the virus. The post circulated local, state and national media.
U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Mississippi) is chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security. Michael Guest (R-Mississippi) is also a member of the Committee.
