COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - As of Tuesday, Chief Nursing Officer, Mary Ellen Sumrall, said Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle did not have a single ICU bed available.
Sumrall said there are 18 ICU beds in the hospital with 30 beds for recovery.
The beds are almost always full and have been since late November.
Sumrall said patients are constantly coming in and out, giving staff little time to take a break.
"Just as soon as we get the beds emptied, somebody's calling," she explained. "Everybody wants to take a breath a minute and we just don't have time to take a breath right now."
Sumrall believes once the vaccine is distributed to everyone, it will reduce the number of patients they see in the hospital.
