Must follow newsroom dress code to properly represent station on the air and in the field. Individual will post written, video and picture content across the multiple online platforms and social media sites.

Minimum Requirements:
To be successful in this position, individual must be able to perform each essential duty to his or her utmost ability. The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required.
Four-year College or University degree and/or previous experience in a television, print or web newsroom.

Pre-employment background check and drug test required. Must be a licensed driver and insurable for a motor vehicle.

Internships

WTVA internship opportunities exist in the News, Operations, and Marketing departments.

WTVA internship opportunities exist in the News, Operations, and Marketing departments. To be considered for an internship position you must fill out and return an Internship Application via postal mail or e-mail. Guidelines for the program are also posted on our Web site; please read them to ensure you meet the qualifications.

All of WTVA's internships are unpaid; therefore, you must receive college credit for your internship. There are no exceptions. You are not guaranteed a position just because you've submitted an application. We receive many more applications than positions available.

Types Of Internships

News Intern
News interns may be responsible for a variety of duties. They will be asked to answer the assignment desk phone, take viewer comments and story ideas, make phone calls, and set up interviews. As part of the internship, they will be offered the opportunity to go out on stories to observe a news crew and produce a résumé tape. Interns may also assist the Sports and Weather departments when needed.

Operations Intern
Operations interns work with directors as well as other department personnel in the planning and execution of television broadcasts. This includes working with daily newscasts, as well as local programming specials. Interns will work in all phases of the Operations department, including master control, audio mixing, character generator operation, studio camera photography, and graphics. Marketing Intern
Interns will assist the Marketing and Creative Services department in implementing and developing multi-station promotional items as well as commercial production for local clients. Duties may include writing scripts, assisting on commercial or in-house shoots, planning marketing strategies, monitoring social media accounts, and assisting at station-sponsored events. This internship requires superior writing skills, proper phone etiquette, and the ability to work well with people. Will also aid in general departmental duties as assigned. 

All interns are required to pass a pre-internship drug test.

Weekend Anchor/Reporter

Mississippi TV, LLC has an immediate opening for a Weekend Anchor/Reporter. 

Duties/abilities required but not limited to:  

  • Follow directions from supervisor to help manage newsroom staff in a courteous and professional manner
  • Working knowledge of the newsgathering process
  • Strong news judgment 
  • Staying calm under pressure, making quick decisions and adapting to last-minute changes 
  • Knowledge of proper grammar and strong writing skills 
  • Producing newscasts 
  • Good shootingstorytelling skills and strong use of natural sound 
  • Knowledge of social media 

Minimum requirements: 

  • A four-year college or university degree and previous experience in a television newsroom.
