All of WTVA's internships are unpaid; therefore, you must receive college credit for your internship. There are no exceptions. You are not guaranteed a position just because you've submitted an application. We receive many more applications than positions available.
Types Of Internships
News interns may be responsible for a variety of duties. They will be asked to answer the assignment desk phone, take viewer comments and story ideas, make phone calls, and set up interviews. As part of the internship, they will be offered the opportunity to go out on stories to observe a news crew and produce a résumé tape. Interns may also assist the Sports and Weather departments when needed.
Operations interns work with directors as well as other department personnel in the planning and execution of television broadcasts. This includes working with daily newscasts, as well as local programming specials. Interns will work in all phases of the Operations department, including master control, audio mixing, character generator operation, studio camera photography, and graphics. If you have any questions, please contact Gary Savage at (662) 842-7620.
Interns will assist the Marketing and Creative Services department in implementing and developing multi-station promotional items as well as commercial production for local clients. Duties may include writing scripts, assisting on commercial or in-house shoots, planning marketing strategies, monitoring social media accounts, and assisting at station-sponsored events. This internship requires superior writing skills, proper phone etiquette, and the ability to work well with people. Will also aid in general departmental duties as assigned.
All interns are required to pass a pre-internship drug test.
