Engineering Technician

WTVA is seeking to fill the position of Engineering Technician. The Engineering Technician assists the Engineering team in maintaining the station’s technical and physical plants. 

Qualifications: 

  • Technical experience and/or technical education 
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Knowledge of physical plant maintenance 
  • Ability to work under time-sensitive deadlines 
  • Understanding of computers and computer networks 
  • Basic understanding of commercial electrical circuits 

WTVA is on the air 24/7. The Engineering Technician must be willing to be on call and to work when needed. This is a fulltime position under the supervision of the Director of Operations and Technology. 

A pre-employment background check and drug test are required. Must be a licensed driver and insurable for a motor vehicle.

Internships

WTVA internship opportunities exist in the News, Operations, and Marketing departments.

WTVA internship opportunities exist in the News, Operations, and Marketing departments. To be considered for an internship position you must fill out and return an Internship Application via postal mail or e-mail. Guidelines for the program are also posted on our Web site; please read them to ensure you meet the qualifications.

All of WTVA's internships are unpaid; therefore, you must receive college credit for your internship. There are no exceptions. You are not guaranteed a position just because you've submitted an application. We receive many more applications than positions available.

Types Of Internships

News Intern
News interns may be responsible for a variety of duties. They will be asked to answer the assignment desk phone, take viewer comments and story ideas, make phone calls, and set up interviews. As part of the internship, they will be offered the opportunity to go out on stories to observe a news crew and produce a résumé tape. Interns may also assist the Sports and Weather departments when needed.

Operations Intern
Operations interns work with directors as well as other department personnel in the planning and execution of television broadcasts. This includes working with daily newscasts, as well as local programming specials. Interns will work in all phases of the Operations department, including master control, audio mixing, character generator operation, studio camera photography, and graphics. Marketing Intern
Interns will assist the Marketing and Creative Services department in implementing and developing multi-station promotional items as well as commercial production for local clients. Duties may include writing scripts, assisting on commercial or in-house shoots, planning marketing strategies, monitoring social media accounts, and assisting at station-sponsored events. This internship requires superior writing skills, proper phone etiquette, and the ability to work well with people. Will also aid in general departmental duties as assigned. 

All interns are required to pass a pre-internship drug test.

Sports Anchor/Multimedia Journalist

Mississippi TV, LLC in Tupelo-Columbus, Mississippi, has an immediate opening for a Sports Anchor/Multimedia Journalist.

Brief Description:

News Producer

Mississippi TV, LLC has an immediate opening for a News Producer. 

Brief Description: 

Candidate must be able to produce fast-paced, hard-hitting newscasts, understand basic producing functions including rundowns, newscast timing and meeting production needs. Will work with anchors and reporters, editing, writing, and show layouts for a newscast. Other duties will include writing and editing stories to the website and social media. 

Duties required, but not limited to:

Working knowledge of the newsgathering process, strong news judgment and the ability to frame stories effectively. This person must be able to assist in building stories for newscasts that are relevant to viewers. Knowledge of proper grammar is a must. This person must thrive under pressure, able to make quick decisions and adapt to last-minute changes. 

Minimum Requirements: 

Four-year college or university degree and/or previous experience in a television, print, or web newsroom.

Part-Time Meteorologist/Multimedia Journalist

WTVA-TV is searching for a part-time meteorologist/multimedia journalist.

The ideal candidate must have an active CBM, AMS or NWA seal or be able to gain a seal no later than six months following the hire date.

The person must be able to present clear, focused and accurate forecasts for television, radio and online platforms.

Schedule flexibility is a must, and long days and nights are part of the job.

We’re looking for a team player and someone who is willing to live our Weather Authority brand.
