Lyon, France (Sports Network) - Britain's Chris Froome made sure he wouldn't have his lead in the Tour de France trimmed again on Saturday, finishing alongside his nearest competitors in the overall standings during Stage 14 of cycling's most prestigious event.

Froome lost more than a minute off his overall advantage Friday, as Dutchman Bauke Mollema and two-time Tour champ Alberto Contador of Spain broke away from the yellow jersey group. That was not the case on Saturday, as all three finished with the same time.

The overall contenders were more than seven minutes behind stage winner Matteo Trentin of Italy. Trentin won a Tour stage for the first time, completing the 191 kilometers from Saint-Pourcain-sur-Sioule to Lyon in a time of 4 hours, 15 minutes and 11 seconds.

It also ended a three-year stage win drought for Italian riders, as Trentin crossed the line just a half-wheel ahead of Switzerland's Michael Albasini with American Andrew Talansky a close third.

"I waited until the 200-meter to go mark to launch my sprint because we had a tailwind so it was good," said Trentin. "It's my first win as a pro, a nice way to start."

Froome, meanwhile, was placed 22nd on Saturday, with Contador 24th and Mollema 29th. Mollema is still second overall, 2:28 behind the yellow jersey, while Contador is another 17 second behind in third place.

"There is still everything to race for at this point; 2 1/2 minutes is nothing when you have a bad day in the mountains," said Froome hinting at the upcoming days in the Alps. "I just hope to get through the Alps without any bad days and get a bit closer to Paris."

Next up is the French holiday of Bastille Day, a grueling day for the riders on Stage 15. It's the longest stage of this year's Tour -- a 242.5-kilometer trek that ends with the highest category climb to the peak of Mont Ventoux to start the journey into the Alps.
