Manila, Philippines (SportsNetwork.com) - Wen-Chong Liang birdied the first playoff hole on Sunday to beat Prom Meesawat and win the Resorts World Manila Masters.
Liang closed with a 3-under 69, while Meesawat fired a 7-under 65 to catch Liang at 16-under-par 272 and force a playoff. On the first extra hole, Liang 2-putted for birdie to claim his third Asian Tour title.
After the win, Liang donated half of his winnings to the relief effort in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan.
Liang started with birdies at three and four, but tripped to a bogey on the fifth and a double-bogey at the par-4 ninth to make the turn at 12-under.
At the 11th, Liang converted a birdie to move to minus-13. After birdies at 13 and 15, Liang birdied the par-5 18th for the third time this week to force the playoff.
Meesawat did his scoring in two bursts. He ran off four birdies in a 5-hole span from the fourth at Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club to soar to minus-13.
After three pars in a row, Meesawat birdied three of four holes from the 12th to jump to 16-under. He parred the last three to end there.
Richard T. Lee (64) and Carlos Pigem (65) shared third place at minus-15, while Steve Lewton (67) and Sutijet Kooratanapisan (68) were one stroke back at 14-under-par 274.
