Recap: Columbus vs. Edmonton
Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Alexander Wennberg recorded the lone goal of the shootout, giving Columbus a 5-4 victory over Edmonton at Nationwide Arena.
Marko Dano, Cam Atkinson, Artem Anisimov and Scott Hartnell tallied in regulation for the Blue Jackets, who have won three in a row and four of five.
"It's fun playing out there. Even though it's a tough game, I felt we battled well out there," Wennberg said.
Sergei Bobrovsky made 31 saves for the win.
Jordan Eberle, Derek Roy, Andrew Ference and Nail Yakupov scored for the Oilers, who haven't won in their last seven games (0-5-2).
Ben Scrivens took the loss despite 27 stops.
None of the first eight shooters split evenly between the teams managed to beat the opposing goaltender until Wennberg -- who posted two assists in the game's first 65 minutes -- tucked a shot through Scrivens' pads.
Edmonton's Teddy Purcell then pushed his backhander wide of the net to end the contest.
Dano beat Scrivens under the crossbar from the right circle just 43 seconds into the contest.
Atkinson's one-timer off a Nick Foligno dish with 3.6 seconds left in the first was a power-play marker and gave the hosts a 2-0 edge.
Eberle got the Oilers on the board at 6:18 of the second with Anisimov booked for hooking and Roy followed up an Oscar Klefbom dump-in which caromed off the back boards for an easy score that made it 2-2 at 12:56.
Columbus regained the lead when Foligno's turnaround pass resulted in Anisimov's rising shot from the slot at 16:51, but lost it on a Ference point floater at 19:11.
Yakupov's shot from below the left circle during a 5-on-3 gave the Oilers a 4-3 edge at 3:26 of the third period, but Hartnell's strike with 3:37 left forced overtime.
"I thought we played well," Eberle said. "It's frustrating we gave them that goal to tie it up, but we gave it a good effort."Game Notes
