Recap: Chicago vs. NY Islanders
Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Toews scored twice and assisted on two more as the Chicago Blackhawks downed the New York Islanders, 4-1, on Tuesday.
Marian Hossa scored the other two goals while Patrick Sharp had two helpers for the Blackhawks, who have won three straight and five of six. Corey Crawford stopped 38-of-39 shots.
Nikolay Kulemin scored the only goal of the game for the Islanders, who have dropped four straight for the first time this season. Michal Neuvirth allowed all four goals on 30 shots in the loss.
"Today, the first half of the game was just not good at all," said Islanders center John Tavares. "That's not who we are. It was just soft."
Chicago got on the board seven minutes in when Toews threw a backhand on net from a sharp angle at the right side as Neuvirth misplayed the disc and it went into the net.
It was Toews again at 16:04 of the first as he took a feed from Niklas Hjalmarsson and skated down the slot, lifting a backhand past Neuvirth for his 23rd goal of the season.
The only goal of the second period went to Chicago as Toews dished a short pass from the left to the right where Hossa one-timed it home at 13:55.
"e were making plays," said Toews. "I think Hossa and I fed off of Sharp's momentum from the last game."
Chicago made it a 4-0 game 57 seconds into the third as Toews passed the puck from the slot to the left side where Sharp one-touched it down low and it went off Hossa's skate for his 21st goal of the season.
The Islanders got on the board at 5:29 of the third when Kulemin finished off a rush play when he knocked in a rebound from the left side for his 13th goal of the season.Game Notes
