Recap: Chicago vs. NY Rangers

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Derick Brassard scored 32 seconds into overtime, and the New York Rangers topped the Chicago Blackhawks 1-0 on Sunday at United Center.

After 60 scoreless and entertaining minutes, Brassard wasted little time ending the game in the extra session. He took a Mats Zuccarello cross-ice pass and beat Corey Crawford on the blocker side with a slap shot from the left circle.

"There's no way there I could score on the glove side, so I just tried to go short side and it worked," Brassard said.

Cam Talbot made 29 saves to earn his fifth shutout of the season. It was the first time the Rangers blanked the Blackhawks since Jan. 25, 1969 and their first shutout in Chicago since Dec. 25, 1966.

New York improved to 10-1-3 in its last 14 games.

Crawford finished with 35 saves for the Blackhawks, who were looking to sweep their three-game homestand. He stopped 16 shots in the first period and made 14 saves in the third, including one with the right pad on Chris Kreider.

Chicago, 0-for-4 on the power play, killed a late penalty for too many men to force overtime.

"(Crawford) made some key saves at the end, very timely," said Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville. "Big penalty kill at the end as well. Got the point. We've had some success over the year in the overtime. Not tonight."

A tight contest between the clubs was no surprise. Nine of the last 11 meetings have been decided by one goal.

Game Notes

The Rangers improved to 6-0-2 in their last eight games against Western Conference teams ... New York has won six of its last eight road games.
