Recap: Vancouver vs. Los Angeles

Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Higgins scored the lone goal of the shootout to lift the Vancouver Canucks to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Monday.

Higgins, Vancouver's third shooter, skated up the left side, drifted across the goalmouth and backhanded a shot over a sprawled Jonathan Quick. Eddie Lack sealed the win with a glove stop on Marian Gaborik.

Daniel Sedin sent the game past regulation with a third-period goal and Lack made 36 saves for the Canucks, who ended a two-game skid and hold second place in the Pacific Division with 95 points and two games remaining.

"It was a big goal for us," Sedin of his game-tying marker. "It was a well- played game by both teams."

Dwight King scored early and Quick stopped 37 shots for the Kings, who sit one point behind Winnipeg for the Western Conference's final playoff spot with three games to play.

"We got one point out of it," Los Angeles defenseman Drew Doughty said. "It could be big for us in the end."

The Kings struck just 1:13 into the game as Jeff Carter drove down the right side and sent to the front of the net, where King tipped it in for the early lead.

Yannick Weber came close to tying the game for the Canucks with under three minutes to play in the second, but his shot off a 2-on-1 rang off the post.

Midway through the third, Henrik Sedin skated behind the net and backhanded a slick pass to his brother Daniel, who slapped a shot past Quick from the left circle to tie the game.

Game Notes

Henrik Sedin notched his 700th career assist ... Kings forward Mike Richards was scratched for a third straight game.
