Recap: Edmonton vs. Winnipeg

Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Ondrej Pavelec stopped 33 shots to give the Winnipeg Jets a 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday.

Drew Stafford, Lee Stempniak, Tyler Myers and Michael Frolik all scored for the Jets, who have ripped off five straight wins.

Winnipeg stayed one point back of Minnesota for the top wild card spot in the Western Conference, and maintained its four-point lead over Los Angeles.

"The guys in front of me played really well and we got the win so that's most important," Pavelec said.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored the only goal of the game for the Oilers, who had won two of three coming into the game. Ben Scrivens allowed all four goals on 24 shots in the loss.

"It really came down to special teams tonight," Oilers coach Todd Nelson said. "We had some good looks. You have to give Pavelec credit, he made some good saves tonight."

The first goal came at 7:32 of the first when Stafford picked off a pass in his own end and raced the other way, beating Scrivens with a wrister from the left wing for his 16th of the season.

Stempniak's jam-in from down low at 5:31 of the second gave the Jets a 2-0 lead, and the team added a power-play goal with four minutes left in the second on Myers' wrister from the left point.

Nugent-Hopkins scored on a snap shot from the slot at 1:10 of the third for his 23rd of the season, but Frolik's power-play goal with 7:43 to play put the game out of reach.
