Recap: San Jose vs. Tampa Bay
San Jose, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Ben Bishop made 33 saves to back a solid offensive effort as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the San Jose Sharks 5-2 on Sunday.
Steven Stamkos and Ryan Callahan each tallied a goal and an assist and Cedric Paquette, Alex Killorn and Ondrej Palat also scored for the Lightning, who ended a two-game skid.
"It was not a pretty road win, but something we can be proud of," Stamkos said.
Logan Couture and Brent Burns each scored and Antti Niemi stopped 28-of-32 shots for San Jose, which has lost four of its last five games.
"Our attention to details is not where it should be," Couture said.
Tampa Bay won its first game in San Jose since March 24, 2003.
Stamkos closed out the first period with his 30th goal of the season as his slap shot from the right point on a delayed San Jose penalty found twine with 14.7 seconds left in the stanza
The Lightning went up 2-0 after Killorn tipped Callahan's snap shot from the right circle past Niemi at 7:12 of the second.
Couture, however, cut the deficit in half just over three minutes later by moving up in the slot and wristing a shot past the blocker of Bishop.
Palat struck just 10 seconds into the final stanza to give the Lighting a 3-1 lead on a quick shot from the right circle.
Burns got the Sharks back within one as he redirected Patrick Marleau's pass past Bishop for a power-play goal and a 3-2 game at 11:38 of the third.
Paquette, who missed the last two games with an upper-body injury, snapped a shot from the right circle to make it 4-2 with 3:41 left to play.
Callahan scored on an empty net just over a minute later to account for the final score.Game Notes
