Recap: Edmonton vs. Ottawa

Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Hoffman scored at 2:39 of overtime to lift the Ottawa Senators to a 4-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place.

It was the second goal for Hoffman, who scored along with Alex Chiasson and Milan Michalek during a dominant first period for the Senators.

The Oilers battled back with a goal in the second period and a pair in the third. They had a power play late in regulation, but couldn't convert.

On the game-winner, Hoffman buried a wrist shot from the high slot.

"You can't spot teams three-goal leads in this league and expect to battle back," said Oilers head coach Dallas Akin. "We can't make it a common occurrence."

Craig Anderson made 34 saves for the Senators, who snapped a three-game slide (0-1-2).

"We didn't really keep the pressure on. We let them back in the game," said Anderson.

Rookie Leon Draisaitl, Jordan Eberle and Jeff Petry scored for the Oilers, who have dropped six of eight. Ben Scrivens stopped 26 shots in the setback.

Hoffman opened the scoring 3:34 into the game, then Chiasson tipped a Chris Phillips point shot at 12:51. Michalek collected a feed from Bobby Ryan off a rush and beat Scrivens, who was peppered with 17 shots in the first period.

The Edmonton comeback began on a power play as Draisaitl knocked in a rebound at 12:57 of the second.

Eberle found a loose puck at the side of the net off a scramble and backhanded it in at 9:35 of the third for his 100th career goal.

The Oilers tied it when Ryan Nugent-Hopkins spotted Petry and set up the defenseman for a one-timer with 6:15 to play.

Game Notes
