Recap: Buffalo vs. Boston

Buffalo, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Brad Marchand fueled Boston's 3-2 comeback victory over the Buffalo Sabres with the game-tying goal late in the third period and the overtime winner on Thursday.

Reilly Smith cycled below the goal line and sent the puck to Marchand, who was all alone in the slot. Marchand, who was a game-time decision, one-timed the puck over the glove of Jhonas Enroth for the win 1:20 into the extra session.

Adam McQuaid also scored and Niklas Svedberg made 13 saves for the Bruins, who bounced back from a 4-3 loss to Minnesota on Tuesday.

"I'm looking for consistency in our game," said Boston head coach Claude Julien. "Being able to play three periods fairly consistent is what we're looking for."

Drew Stafford and Tyler Ennis both lit the lamp and Enroth stopped 34-of-37 shots for Buffalo, which has dropped six of its last seven games.

"There's some positive things we can take from this game," said Buffalo head coach Ted Nolan. "The effort was there and it was a lot better than I've seen at times."

After a scoreless first, Buffalo opened the scoring in the second with its first power-play goal of the season, snapping an 0-for-33 start. Ennis emerged from behind the net and dished the puck to Stafford, who wristed a shot over the shoulder of Svedberg at 5:12.

McQuaid's shot from the top of the right circle deflected off the glove of Sabres defenseman Mike Weber and past Enroth for a tie game with 8:24 to play in the middle stanza.

Marcus Foligno raced up on the right side on a short-handed breakaway and cut across the goalmouth, but Svedberg stayed with him and made a pad save to keep it a tied game with five minutes to play in the second.

Just under two minutes later, Ennis took Torrey Mitchell's cross-ice feed on a 2-on-1 and finished off the play with a wrister over Svedberg for a 2-1 lead.

Marchand charged through the slot and deflected Loui Eriksson's laser from the right circle into the net to tie the game with 5:30 remaining.
